Poundland avoids administration as restructure approved

Poundland has avoided collapsing into administration after its turnaround plan was approved days before the chain was due to run out of money.

The budget retailer had asked the judge to approve a deal, saying it would have run out of cash without it by 7 September.

Poundland has around 14,700 staff and operates about 800 stores. It has previously announced plans to close 68 shops after it was sold to a subsidiary of a private equity firm for £1, putting about 1,000 jobs at risk.

Household energy bills to rise by 2% in October

Energy prices for most households in Britain are to rise by 2% from October, taking a typical annual bill to £1,755.

Ofgem, the energy regulator, said the energy price cap will rise by around £2.93 a month for the average household for the final three months of the year.

The change is relatively small by recent standards, with households having seen a drop of 7% or £129 a year from July.

Boohoo suffers record losses as turnaround falters

Boohoo has suffered record losses as bosses struggle to stage a turnaround of the ailing fashion retailer.

The online fashion group plunged £348million into the red last year after an “unacceptable” performance, punishing the group even further after it lost £160million the year before.

It marks the largest loss on record for the company, which has been attempting to revive its fortunes.

Filtronic lands £50m deal with Elon Musk’s SpaceX

A British radio transmitter company has landed a near £50million contract with Elon Musk’s SpaceX to support its Starlink internet service.

Filtronic, which makes radio frequency transmitters and receivers, said it was the first order for its new radio frequency technology, which claims to offer improved efficiency, more power and better temperature control, and its largest order from SpaceX to date.

The ground-breaking technology will be used in the Starlink constellation, which is a network of more than 6,750 satellites orbiting the Earth, more than 300 miles away.
