Thousands of civil servant jobs to leave London

Thousands of civil servants are to be moved out of London under plans to save money and shift government jobs to offices across the country.

The government is aiming to cut the number of roles in London by 12,000 and close 11 offices in the capital to save £94m a year by 2032.

According to reports, the changes will see two new government campuses opened in Manchester and Aberdeen, and roles created in other towns and cities.

Microsoft to cut nearly 3% of workforce worldwide

Microsoft Corporation has begun to cut nearly 3% of its global workforce, its largest mass layoff in more than two years.

The technology giant, which has a stock market value of $3.3trillion, did not disclose the total number losing their jobs but it is expected to be about 6,000 people.

Microsoft, which is led by Satya Nadella, employed 228,000 full-time workers as of last June, the last time it reported its annual headcount. About 55% of those workers were in the United States.

Vinted triples its profits in a year to £80m

Paul Mescal’s cardigans, Ferne McCann’s baby clothes and designer items from Alexa Chung’s personal wardrobe, along with all manner of hand-me-downs, have found their way on to Vinted.

The digital marketplace has become an ever more popular destination for second-hand clothes, helping the company to almost triple its profits last year.

Vinted reported a profit before tax of €95.4million (£80.3million) in 2024, up from €33.4million last year. Sales increased by 36% from €596.3million to €813.4million.

Former TalkTalk chief bids to lead Channel 4 board

The former boss of broadband provider TalkTalk is bidding to become the first woman to chair Channel 4.

Dame Tristia Harrison is among the contenders to replace Sir Ian Cheshire, The Telegraph has learnt.

She served as chief executive of TalkTalk from 2017 until late last year.
