Westminster is to launch a probe into the SNP finances saga that ultimately led to Peter Murrell being jailed.
The development was confirmed on Wednesday by the Scottish affairs committee.
Two separate inquiries will be held, one into the case for and against splitting the role of the lord advocate in Scotland and the other into the Electoral Commission’s job in overseeing party finances, The Times reports.
The first of those will look at the possibility of splitting the lord advocate role, who is the head of Scotland’s prosecution service but also serves in the Scottish cabinet.
It will examine any real or perceived political interference in the Peter Murrell case.
Westminster sources also told The Times that the Electoral Commission inquiry was set up to look at the SNP embezzlement case and Murrell.
Murrell, the former SNP Chief Executive, was jailed after admitting embezzling more than £400,000 of party cash.
