Planning and mobilisation activity has started by Aberdeen City Council and partners for the 2027 FIA World Rally Championship in the area - WRC Rally Scotland.
A report to the Council’s Finance and Resource Committee confirmed working arrangements for communications, stakeholder coordination, and contract finalisation activity are underway.
Committee convener Councill Alex McLellan said: It is fantastic that Aberdeen will play a key role in Rally Scotland, and work is well underway to deliver a world class event.
“Rally Scotland will bring thousands to the North East, which allows us a huge opportunity to showcase our city and region on the world stage.
Council Co-Leader Councillor Ian Yuill said: “We are delighted the WRC Rally Scotland event plans are going well at this comparatively early stage.
“The time will no doubt fly past and the event will be here soon enough. We look forward to giving competitors and visitors a warm Aberdonian welcome.”
The report said an update will be given to Committee in August setting out the Council’s role in supporting the event organiser’s governance and delivery arrangements.
Motorsport UK, in partnership with EventScotland and the WRC Promoter, identified the North East of Scotland as a preferred host location for a UK round of the WRC, headquartered at P&J Live in Aberdeen and stages across Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, and Moray.
Contract rights for the event would cover an initial three‑year period, from 2027–29, with the ambition of establishing the region as the long‑term home of World Rally Scotland.
On 16 March 2026, Motorsport UK announced that WRC will return to the UK from 2027 with a new event in North East Scotland titled WRC Rally Scotland. Aberdeen’s host city activity includes the event’s principal family friendly components and high-profile city activity (potential including ceremonial start/finish and city street stage).
At this stage, only the event base in Aberdeen, rally headquarters/service park location at P&J Live, and the broad model of forest stages with a fan-facing city component are confirmed.
All route and site specifics remain under development and will be confirmed through the WRC Promoter/FIA approval process, including the dates for 2027 which are anticipated to be announced later this summer.
The event governance model/ steering group will be led by Motorsport UK as event owners, who will oversee the strategic planning and coordination.
The Council will support and enable delivery through its established statutory and governance functions, including multi-agency planning as a category 1 responder, Roads Authority coordination for transport and traffic management liaison for signage, parking, and roadworks alignment, and complementary measures such as bus provision/park and ride. It will also facilitate access to public spaces and Council assets where required.
