Mike Yule, Internal Sales Manager at Aberdeen-based design, print and display company XIC, is preparing to take on the TCS London Marathon 2027 to raise funds for Anthony Nolan, the charity that helped save his daughter’s life.
At 63 and having not run seriously for more than 30 years, Mike is embarking on a significant personal challenge. From rebuilding his fitness to preparing for the 26.2-mile course, the journey will require months of training, determination and commitment.
His motivation is deeply personal. Eighteen years ago, Mike’s daughter Amanda was diagnosed with leukaemia. During an incredibly difficult time for the family, Anthony Nolan identified a matching bone marrow donor. The transplant that followed gave Amanda a second chance at life and brought the family hope when they needed it most.
Now, Mike wants to give something back and help other families facing blood cancer.
Mike said: “This marathon is my way of saying thank you. Anthony Nolan helped save my daughter Amanda’s life, and I want to help ensure other families have the same opportunity and hope that we were given.”
Through his fundraising, Mike hopes to support the charity’s work in matching patients with potential stem cell donors, helping more people receive the transplants they need.
Nicola Anderson, Business Development Manager at XIC, said: “Having worked alongside Mike at XIC for over four years, I’m extremely proud of the challenge he’s taking on, and that pride is shared by the whole team. His determination to give something back to a charity that means so much to his family is so inspiring. He brings such positivity and commitment to everything he does, and I know he’ll carry that into his training.”
Mike’s colleagues at XIC will be supporting him throughout his training and on marathon day as he works towards this special milestone.
Every donation, large or small, will help Mike turn his gratitude into support for other families.
