ZynQ 360, the Aberdeen-based reality capture and visual twin software company, has published a new case study detailing how it delivered vessel visual twins for a global offshore contractor operating a fleet of diving support and construction support vessels.

The project involved capturing six vessels in full - four diving support vessels, one construction support vessel and one daughter craft - using a combination of high-resolution 360° photography and point cloud scanning, utilising both a NavVis VLX and a Leica Geosystems laser scanner. Each vessel was processed on a one-week capture, one-week build cycle, with all assets delivered live in the ZynQ visual twin platform ahead of the client's peak operational season.

The results from year one were significant. The fleet recorded over 43,500 platform interactions across its six vessels, with 132 active users spanning internal project teams and third-party contractors. Platform adoption grew by more than 900% within the first six months, as crews, engineers and project managers integrated remote visual access into their day-to-day workflows - reducing the need for physical visits to vessels on active deployment.

The case study highlights a broader challenge familiar to operators across the North Sea and beyond: coordinating planning, maintenance and collaboration across a distributed fleet is costly and heavily dependent on physical access. Visual twins address that directly, giving teams the ability to inspect, plan and collaborate from anywhere, at any time.

ZynQ 360’s Operations Director Scott Stewart commented, "Before a vessel even reaches port, decisions are already being made about what goes where on the back deck. Without visual access to the asset, that planning can be hampered by out-of-date drawings and missing information. With ZynQ, the deck is right there in front of you, from any device, anywhere in the world. That’s why adoption was so strong so quickly. When a tool genuinely solves a problem people face every day, they don't need to be convinced to use it."
