The determined spirit of Iska and Chris Birnie came through as they conquered a remarkable 24-hour golf challenge at Newmachar Golf Club's renowned Swailend course. The picturesque golf course provided the perfect setting for this exceptional display of endurance and community support.
The challenge, which took place from Tuesday, August 15 at 7:00 AM, through to Wednesday, August 16 at 6:00 AM, was a fundraiser for CLAN Cancer Support, a local charity that supports cancer patients and their families.
Chris Birnie, a dedicated Personal Trainer and Sports Massage Therapist at BWB Fitness and Total Endurance, ambitiously aimed for six rounds of golf – a staggering 108 holes - within 24 hours. With a handicap of 19, he showcased his passion and skill for the game by achieving an impressive 25 pars and losing only 11 balls. His determination and commitment stood as an inspiration to all who witnessed this incredible achievement.
While Chris conquered the course, giving his all to complete the challenge, his wife Iska Birnie, a local award-winning photographer specialising in brand, commercial, and PR photography, played an essential support role. Selling raffle tickets in the clubhouse and making sure Chris had all he needed to complete the challenge. The raffle offered participants a shot at winning a signed and framed football strip from Aberdeen FC player Graeme Shinnie, adding an extra layer of excitement and contributing further to the funds raised for CLAN Cancer Support.

Iska also walked with her husband throughout three rounds of golf. Two of these rounds were played in the dark during the nighttime hours. She illuminated the fairways with torches and aided in golf ball spotting.
Both Chris and Iska Birnie's participation in this challenge showed their commitment to giving back to the community and making a lasting impact on the lives of those affected by cancer. This event not only raised vital funds for CLAN Cancer Support but also exemplified the incredible strength of a united local community rallying for a greater cause.
