Aberdeen Arts Centre unveils ambitious refurbishment plans

A community-focused city arts venue has announced plans for a major, six-figure renovation of its café bar.

Aberdeen Arts Centre’s café bar is set for a dramatic transformation with the aim of re-invigorating the 55-year old venue to match the community’s expectation of a modern, accessible and creative facility.

Plans for the new £220,000 space include redeveloping it to deliver a multi-purpose area with enhanced catering facilities. These would enable the venue to extend their opening hours and provide a comprehensive food and drink service during the day for local residents and businesses.

Additional performance space will also be created as part of the renovation, further enhancing the Centre’s service provision to users and customers, and contributing to the long-term cultural life of the community.

The plans have been very much informed by a commitment to improve accessibility to the venue, making sure that the opportunities and facilities on offer are readily available to all.

Chairman of the Arts Centre’s board, Richard Tinto, said: “I’m thrilled to be part of what is shaping up to be a very exciting year at Aberdeen Arts Centre with the refurbishment of the café bar being an important part of this. We know that the Centre is held in great affection in the North-east, and we are keen not only to consolidate this position, but to expand and develop it further. We want to create a vibrant, dynamic, creative hub in the north of the city, as part of our long-term plan to secure the future of the Arts Centre, so that people of all ages and abilities can learn about and engage in the performing arts. Aberdeen Arts Centre is very fortunate to be supported by Aberdeen City Council, and we would like to express our sincere gratitude for their ongoing commitment.”
