Clan is calling on Adrenalin
junkies to take a huge leap of faith with the charity’s latest challenge – a
bungee jump at Aberdeen beach.
Daredevils will plunge
themselves 160ft from a 60-tonne crane specially
erected by sponsors Global Crane Services on the old tramlines near the Beach
Ballroom, giving jumpers a spectacular view of the North Sea before their
descent.
The challenge, known as The Big Hop Bungee, will take
place on Saturday, August 19, coinciding with the charity’s sculpture trail The
Big Hop.
The event is the
only known bungee jump registered to take place in Aberdeen this year.
Ruth McIntosh, Clan’s
charity development manager, said: “Our latest challenge is definitely not for
the faint hearted. Inspired by our upcoming art trail, The Big Hop Bungee
promises to be an unforgettable and exhilarating experience for participants.
“We’d like to thank Global
Crane Services for kindly donating the crane we are using and to our jump
partners UK Bungee Club, for all their health and safety support. Thanks to
them, the skyline at Aberdeen beach is going to be changed – albeit temporarily
- for what we are sure will be a great day.
“This event is perfect for
those looking to set themselves a personal or a group challenge and is a great
way for fundraisers to tick off their bucket list whilst providing much needed
support for people affected by cancer.”
The Big Hop Trail, supported by headline sponsor Hellmann Worldwide
Logistics and presenting partners Colin Lawson and DC Thomson, will take
the public on another cultural tour of the north-east and the islands from July
to September 2023, with hare sculptures designed and created by some of the
country’s most talented artists.
The trail coincides with
Clan’s 40th anniversary, with the 40 hares being the focal point to celebrate the
charity’s commitment to supporting people affected by cancer.
Registration for The Big Hop
Bungee is now open with participants required to pay a £40 sign-up fee and
raise a minimum of £100 in sponsorship to secure their place.
Spectators are welcome to
join the fun and support the participants on the day. Refreshments will be
available and timings will be confirmed closer to the event taking place.
