An Aberdeen charity is giving thanks to the community as it announces that their two festive match funding campaigns have raised £39,742.50.

Aberdeen Cyrenians supports people in crisis who are affected by homelessness, poverty, abuse, addiction, mental ill-health, and complex needs. Their services offer help and compassion to some of the most vulnerable and socially excluded people in our community.

To date, 213 people have supported the campaigns, which launched December last year, and the charity wishes to give its heartfelt thanks and gratitude to everyone who has donated.

Chris Bennett-Taylor, Chief Executive of the charity said:

“We cannot thank the community enough for their amazing generosity in raising nearly £40,000. We are overwhelmed by the massive support the community continues to show to an increasing number of vulnerable people in the North-east.

In recent years, we’ve seen a 600% increase in referrals to our different services and, through the support from the community, distributed 80,325 meals.

With the cost-of-living crisis affecting us all, many of the people asking for our support are first-time service users.

The money raised will fund our Direct Access Service, our open-door service available to anyone, which offers non-judgmental advice and support, providing access to our food store and other essentials.

The funds raised by the community in such a short period of time is a clear example of community spirit. Thank you again to everyone who has supported us. Together we can make change in the North-east for so many lives. No one should struggle alone.”
