Chief planners are calling or the Denburn restoration project to be scrapped after a £1.5milion application to the National Lottery Heritage Fund was rejected.

The £3million plan was launched two years ago which would see the 1.5 mile stream transformed into a public-friendly space.

The burn flows from the Den of Maidencraig nature reserve to King’s Gate in the west of the city near Rubislaw Quarry. The plans proposed to re-meander the Denburn and create new footpaths for visitors.

The P&J reported in 2023 that fines from the controversial Aberdeen bus gates would help cover the costs of creating the new nature haven.

But despite securing support from Sepa and Nestrans, planning officials are recommending the project be thrown out all together.
