Aberdeen City Music School celebrated the fantastic achievements of all four of its S6 leavers who have each been offered places at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
Andrew Neill, Duncan Ritchie, Elizabeth Mackenzie and Daniel Toderas have been offered places in the Performance and Scottish Traditional courses at the
world-leading conservatoire of music, drama, dance production and film located in Glasgow.
Andrew, who has been a pupil at the Music School for 3 years, will be studying voice on the performance course and has ambitions to work with Scottish Opera in the future.
Daniel, a 1st study pianist, has also been accepted on the Performance course. Daniel hopes to become a concert pianist in the future, playing both as a soloist and with orchestras.
Both Elizabeth and Duncan have been offered places on the Traditional course. Elizabeth is a Gaelic singer and hopes, on completion of the course, to travel showcasing Gaelic song. As a soloist and part of an ACMS traditional ensemble, she has had great success at the Mod over the last two years.
Duncan is an accordionist, having started at the music school on piano. He has had much success in competitions across Scotland including the coming fourth in the Scottish Accordion Championships Open class. He enjoys performing both as a soloist and in his bands and has performed many of his own compositions too.
Councillor John Wheeler, Education Operational Delivery Convener, congratulated the four talented pupils: “This is a fantastic achievement and tremendous opportunity for Elizabeth, Andrew, Duncan and Daniel and a well-deserved reward for all the hard work they have undertaken with their tutors. I wish them every success in the future.
“This is also a huge feather in the cap for the Aberdeen City Music School and underlines the fact that budding young musician and singers will receive the very best education at a facility which we are rightly proud of”.
Mrs Sonia Scaife, director of Aberdeen City Music School, said “I am so proud of them. They show how hard work and talent is appreciated in Scotland and I know they all have a bright future in the music world”.
The City Music School is based at Dyce Academy and is one of only school is one of only four of its kind in Scotland. Places are free and pupils receive top class tuition from tutors who travel to the school from all over Scotland.
