Aberdeen Comedy Festival makes its Music Hall debut

After a record-breaking festival in 2018, which saw nearly a dozen sold out shows and both audience numbers and ticket sales take a dramatic rise, Aberdeen Inspired today announced two of the hottest acts on the comedy circuit will make their Comedy Festival debuts next year.

Acclaimed international stand-up comedians Jimeoin and Daniel Sloss will both headline at next year’s event, taking their first festival shows centre stage to Aberdeen’s iconic Music Hall.

Commenting on the announcement, Adrian Watson, chief executive of Aberdeen Inspired said “We are absolutely delighted to have Daniel Sloss and Jimeoin on board for the 2019 Aberdeen Comedy festival. Although they are newcomers to our festival they are both internationally acclaimed, notorious and award winning comedians who we can’t wait to see. When the festival ended in October, we said that we had ambitious plans for its fourth year and this announcement today reinforces our commitment to delivering a world-class comedy festival every October in the city.

“We are delighted to bring these comedians to the festival and for them to be bringing their biggest ever shows to the city by performing in the beautiful redeveloped Music Hall. It’s a terrific coup for us to have secured these great acts and we are grateful to have the support of Aberdeen Performing Arts in showcasing comedy at the Music Hall as part of the festival.”

Stand-up comedian Jimeoin will close the festival on Sunday, October 13 at 7.30pm at The Music Hall. Jimeoin is internationally acclaimed as one of the hottest stand-up comics of this generation and is a true comedy master. A prolific writer with an exceptional audience rapport, he is known and loved for his brilliantly funny wit and charming observations on the absurdities of every-day life.

Jimeoin is also the award-winning star of TV shows including ‘Live at the Apollo’, ‘Royal Variety Performance', 'CH4’s O2 Gala’, 'Conan' and ‘Sunday Night at the Palladium’ and recently had a smash-hit New York off-Broadway season. His world class stand-up is brilliantly observed, and ever-evolving and we look forward to welcoming the Irishman from Australia (and his hilarious eyebrows) to the festival.

Jimeoin is delighted to be closing the 2019 comedy festival and said: “I’ve been to Aberdeen a few times over the last decade and have loved it. Great crowds, lovely venues. Last time I was there a taxi driver told me you have 40 or so golf courses around the city. Sounds a bit much, but I’m hoping I’ll get to play one of them. And I’m looking forward to playing the festival too of course!

Daniel Sloss: X will headline at The Music Hall on Saturday, October 5 at 8pm. The latest stunning show from Scotland’s internationally acclaimed and award-winning comedy star is not to be missed. Fast becoming one of the world’s biggest comedy names, with two hour-long Netflix comedy specials released in 190 countries, Daniel’s current tour has become a comedy juggernaut, selling out shows as fast as they can be added across the globe. (Please note that "X" comes with a warning that it deals with some challenging contemporary themes)

He has appeared on US TV’s ‘Conan’ a record nine times, sold out shows at 11 consecutive Edinburgh Fringes and played nine solo sold out seasons in London’s West End as well as four seasons off-Broadway in New York. Daniel has been featured on Comedy Central’s ‘Roast Battles’ and ‘Drunk History’, ITV’s ‘Sunday Night at the Palladium’, gave a ‘Tedx’ Talk and recorded a DVD (aged 20) and his stand-up clips have over 15 million views. Still just 28, this is his brilliant 10th solo show and his first time to the Aberdeen Comedy Festival.

Sloss said “Each year when I tour my latest show across the UK, I really - genuinely - look forward to coming to Aberdeen because the audiences are superb. This year I also get to look forward to performing at the Music Hall for my first time at the comedy festival.”

Aberdeen Comedy Festival will run at a multitude of city venues, bars and clubs over the course of 11 days from Thursday, October 3 until Sunday, October 13, 2019. It will continue to showcase local talent as well as the best acts on both the national and international comedy circuit.

The festival has been organised and promoted in its entirety by Aberdeen Inspired since 2016 with generous support from The McGinty’s Group Scotland.

The 2019 festival is set to be the biggest and best celebration of comedy the North-east has seen with thousands of comedy lovers expected to flock to the city to see the best comedy on offer next October.
