Aberdeen company goes West

Aberdeen-based oil and gas service company Centrifuges Un-Limited is hoping to draw on the experience gained during its successful foray into the Middle East as it sets its sights on tapping into US opportunities.

The 16-year-old solutions provider, which is exhibiting at OTC this week, operates from global headquarters in the Dyce area of the city and a service centre in Dubai. It hopes that the appeal of North Sea and Middle East-proven products will provide a springboard from which it can explore the American market as part of ongoing internationalisation plans.

Currently, in the region of 40% of the company’s revenue comes from UK sources with the remainder generated in international locations. Sectors covered by Centrifuges Un-Limited include marine, onshore refineries and petrochemicals, onshore environmental, waste water plant, distilleries and the food processing industry, as well as oil and gas

Key to recent growth has been the decision to create two specialist divisions within the company, namely a heat transfer division specialising in mud cooling for high pressure high temperature (HPHT) drilling fluid management programmes, with mud temperature control systems rented and sold worldwide. In addition is the mechanical separation division specialises in diesel fuel cleaning, oily water separation and the ELVOS® slop treatment solutions for platform decommissioning, rig drains treatment, well testing activities and well completions.

The move has enabled Centrifuges Un-Limited to sharpen its focus and is combined with ongoing, significant investment in training across the company to ensure a highly skilled workforce able to meet the demands of a growing global client base. This investment has been steadily increased year-on-year and reached almost £40,000 in the year to August 2016.

Commenting on the company’s US ambitions, Centrifuges Un-Limited managing director Jim Shiach said: “We are hoping that the collective experience we have gained in our travels eastwards will stand us in good stead as we prepare to go west. Lessons learned and knowledge gained will be valuable assets as we seek to grow our presence in US markets, and Houston is the obvious location from which to explore the possibilities and opportunities.

“Attending events such as OTC is crucial in furthering our understanding of the market, and fostering relationships within it.”
