Aberdeen FC Community Trust is pleased to announce trustee Elaine Farquharson-Black as its new Chair, with Barry Duncan stepping into the role of Vice Chair.
Prominent businesswoman Elaine Farquharson-Black, who is a Partner at Brodies LLP, was appointed to the Board of Trustees of AFCCT in August this year.
Barry Duncan, Managing Director & VP Finance CNR International (UK) Limited, has a long-term association with the Trust having served on the Board for five years, playing a pivotal role in its continued development.
Given their highly distinguished careers and with a wealth of experience and prominence within the North-east, the Board of Trustees is assured that Elaine and Barry are outstanding leaders to take AFCCT forward as it prepares to celebrate its ten-year anniversary in 2024.
Both are also life-long Dons’ fans who understand the strong connection between the club and the local community, as well as the power of football in transforming lives for the better.
The appointments come ahead of the annual AFCCT Impact Report being published next month which will reveal how the Trust has supported the community through its education, football, health and mental wellbeing programmes.
Commenting on the new appointments, AFCCT Chief Executive Liz Bowie said: “We are delighted to have secured such strong leadership as the Trust moves towards its 10th Anniversary.
“With an abundance of local knowledge, the Trust will benefit hugely from Elaine and Barry’s guidance. As Dons fans, they share a passion for all that AFCCT does to support the community and want to further its ambitions for the future.”
Commenting on her appointment, Farquharson-Black said: “I am delighted to be appointed Chair of the Board of Trustees at this exciting time. I am looking forward to supporting Liz and the wider team in achieving the Trust's aims of enhancing wellbeing, realising potential and building a stronger community in Aberdeen and the North-east.”
Barry Duncan added: “It’s been a privilege to serve as a Trustee for five years, and to now be appointed Vice Chair. These are challenging times for the Trust, with greater demand than ever for services coupled with funding challenges, and I’m looking forward to working with my fellow Trustees, our leadership team and fantastic staff and volunteers so the Trust continues to positively impact so many in our community.”
The AFC Community Trust Board now comprises: Elaine Farquharson-Black (Chair), Barry Duncan (Vice Chair), Geoff Aberdein, Jim Buchan, Gordon Edwards, Neil Hendry, Emma Stephen, Rob Wicks and Mark Wilson.
