Aberdeen Science centre has welcomed a new chair, Professor Hugh Pennington.

With over a 26 year heritage of delivering hands-on science to all ages and backgrounds, the centre’s board has a focus on maintaining the organisation as a pivotal tool for the community in all its charitable efforts.

Professor Pennington was awarded a CBE in 2013 for services to microbiology and food hygiene. He has also played an important advisory role in various organisations, including the Scottish Food Advisory Committee of the Food Standards Agency and the World Food Programme Technical Advisory Group, as well as acting as Vice Chair of the Broadcasting Council for Scotland (advising the BBC).

Liz Hodge, chief executive of Aberdeen Science Centre, said: “We are overjoyed that Hugh, who has been so pivotal in his research and science communication during his career, has chosen to become our chairman and come with us on our journey.”

Professor Hugh Pennington, chairman of Aberdeen Science Centre, said: “For many reasons the work of the ASC is needed more than ever. It is a privilege — and delightful challenge— to be taking up the Chair at this exciting time.”
