Aberdeenshire Council is encouraging companies to come forward to offer pupils studying a Foundation Apprenticeship in Accountancy the opportunity of a work placement.
In June this year, over 40 pupils across Aberdeenshire academies, all of whom have indicated that they wish to become accountants, began their Accountancy Foundation Apprenticeship.
They are some of the over six hundred S5 and S6 pupils who have chosen a level 5/6 Foundation Apprenticeship from the nine frameworks available in Academies across the region. These apprenticeships are uniquely designed to provide young people with real experience of work, whilst gaining a qualification at the same level as a Higher (SCQF Level 6).
The Foundation Apprenticeship qualification involves a work placement, one afternoon per week over an eight-week period, and an ideal setting for the Accountancy placement is in a finance department or accountancy firm. Pupils are currently preparing for their placements; looking forward to the opportunity to put their learned theories into practice and through this industry-recognised qualification get a head start on their careers.
The work placement is a crucial element of the course. The investment of employers’ time can bring lasting rewards, through access to talented and driven young people working on real projects with existing staff, bringing new ideas and fresh perspectives.
Pupils who take a Foundation Apprenticeship gain, on average, an increase of 70% attainment over pupils who do not, and the Foundation Apprenticeship Team would greatly welcome your organisation being part of this very exciting journey.
