North-east surface treatment specialist Nexus has made a significant six-figure investment in new equipment as part of its growth plans which commit to the circular economy.
The Stonehaven-based business says the investment – which includes a new crane, industrial furnace and blasting cabinet - will allow them to build on existing success diversifying into different sectors, as well as supporting the region’s net zero ambitions.
Circular economy
Managing Director Ronnie Watt said: “Our business is to protect the things that drive our clients’ businesses in demanding environments.
“The circular economy plays a key part in our future direction, and our ability to treat equipment so it can be reused and recycled means we can help other businesses to achieve their own environmental ambitions.
“As Nexus diversifies beyond traditional oil and gas, this investment lets us offer more energy-efficient surface treatments that maximise equipment performance, as well as a greater range of refurbishment and reuse options for existing kit.
Expansion
“It’s vital to us that we continue to provide the quality of service our clients have come to expect in the last 20 years, as well as support new clients as we expand into other sectors, such as renewable energy and food & drink.
“For example, our new high-temperature treatment oven operates at 450 degrees centigrade which means we can now offer more food-safe coatings for producers and manufacturers.
“We are also very aware of the impact industry can have on the environment, so our new blast cabinet uses 15% less energy and produces 20% less waste.
“In addition, we are investing in new finishing products that offer the same low levels of friction and anti-corrosion protection but are better for the environment.”
Equipment specifics
The new equipment – which has all been installed within the last six months - conforms to all relevant health & safety regulations and includes:
- a precision-engineered Street crane with a 7.5 tonne lifting capacity, which was manufactured in a state-of-the-art UK facility and installed by Oldmeldrum company Red Rooster
- an industrial electric furnace which operates at temperatures of up to 450 degrees centigrade in addition to being 30% more energy-efficient than the previous furnace
- a new Hodge Clemco blasting cabinet which offers increased energy efficiency, with LED lighting and high-grade electrical motors
