AberGP, a new private general practice based in Aberdeen’s west end, has launched to provide more flexible, accessible and affordable primary care services for patients across Aberdeen and the surrounding areas.

The practice has been established in response to growing demand for GP appointments and greater flexibility in how patients access care.

It offers a range of consultation options, including in‑person, telephone, video and online appointments, with a focus on improving access and continuity while keeping pricing transparent and competitive to ensure care remains within reach for individuals and families.

The launch reflects a wider shift in how primary care is being accessed across the UK. Increasing demand, workforce pressures and changing patient expectations have contributed to challenges in securing timely GP appointments, prompting the development of additional models of care designed to complement existing NHS services without creating barriers based on cost.

For employers, access to primary care is also becoming an important consideration.  Employee illness can contribute to prolonged absence and reduced productivity, with many organisations placing greater emphasis on employee wellbeing and access to healthcare support.

Affordable, timely access to GP services can play an important role in supporting staff wellbeing while remaining cost‑effective for both individuals and businesses.

AberGP forms part of this evolving landscape, offering an additional route for patients seeking timely consultations alongside traditional provision. The model prioritises responsive access to appointments, streamlined administration and the opportunity for patients to see the same GP where possible, supporting continuity of care and ensuring patients understand costs upfront, with no hidden fees or unexpected charges.

Dr Laura Thomson, GP partner at AberGP and senior clinical lecturer at the University of Aberdeen, said: “Patients increasingly value being able to access care in a way that fits their lives, while still maintaining continuity and trust with a GP who understands their history.

"We are equally committed to ensuring that high‑quality care is delivered at a fair and transparent cost.”

The introduction of services such as AberGP highlights a broader move towards more flexible and patient‑centred approaches to healthcare.

As demand continues to grow, a combination of public and independent provision is expected to play a role in ensuring patients can access appropriate care when they need it in a way that is both accessible and affordable.
