ACVO TSI is delighted to share the latest ACVO News publication, the free digital magazine showcasing the work, achievements and opportunities across Aberdeen’s third sector.
ACVO News is a key platform in promoting the vibrant work of third sector organisations in Aberdeen, providing the latest funding opportunities, volunteering roles, events and vacancies in the city and sharing the latest insights from the ACVO team.
The September edition highlights the first year of Cash First Aberdeen – a project that has offered dignified, direct financial support to people facing crisis across the city.
The Cash First Year 1 Reflection event, hosted by ACVO, brought together partners, councillors and community members to hear powerful stories of impact and explore how this approach is helping to reduce reliance on food banks and put choice back into people’s hands.
This event also coincided with the launch of the Stories from Cash First Aberdeen project, a powerful collection of personal accounts showcasing the impact of the Cash First Flexible Crisis Fund. The project can be read in the newsletter or to hear the full lived experiences from Robert, Jack, Freddie, Lukasz and Ryan, visit cashfirstaberdeen.scot.
Alongside Cash First, this month’s issue highlights a significant moment for funding in Aberdeen. The Communities Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund for Adults and the Just Transition PB Fund are now live, with the Community and Coast Fund opening later this month.
Maggie Hepburn, Chief Executive, says: “As September begins, funding takes centre stage at ACVO. By the end of the month, three of the funds we manage will be open for applications, offering direct support for groups and organisations working across Aberdeen.
“Together, these opportunities mean that over the coming months, ACVO and partners will distribute more than £980,000 directly to community groups and organisations in Aberdeen.”
Since 2021, ACVO has been proud to distribute over £3.4million in funding to Aberdeen’s third sector. The impact is clear – supporting hundreds of projects that strengthen communities and improve wellbeing.
Brimmond Court Residents Association is highlighted in this month’s edition as an outstanding example of funding impact. With a small grant from the Community and Coast Fund, residents transformed a communal kitchen into a hub for connection, showing how modest awards can create lasting change.
“What strikes me most is the way these funds continue to empower communities to lead their own change,” shares Maggie.
“The projects supported are focused around lived experience and driven by local knowledge. They address real needs, from reducing isolation and improving wellbeing to tackling climate challenges and building resilience for the future.”
Further third sector updates from Aberdeen this month include:
- Coverage of Aberdeen’s first CEO Sleepout, which raised over £72,000 to tackle homelessness and poverty.
- A preview of the Aberdeen Science Festival, returning with a vibrant programme of events across the city.
- A celebration of the volunteers whose energy and commitment made the Tall Ships Races 2025 such a success.
Third sector organisations, charities and community groups are welcome to contact ACVO to share their stories or if they wish to have a feature article highlighting the work they do in Aberdeen. Having your story included is a great way to promote your projects, celebrate achievements and raise awareness of your work to Aberdeen’s third sector audience.
