AEL celebrates Investors In People accreditation

A leading international provider of electrical products and services has marked the culmination of a landmark anniversary year by gaining accreditation to a major national scheme.

Aberdeen-based AEL – which marked 35 years in business in 2016 – has celebrated its ongoing commitment to training and development by being recognised with the award of Investors in People accreditation at silver level. The announcement comes a year after the company achieved Investors in Young People accreditation.

The company has a long and successful track of creating employment and learning opportunities, ranging from internships for local graduates to apprenticeships for school leavers and work experience opportunities working in partnership with nearby schools.

Commenting on the company’s success, AEL’s Alan Mackie said: “In our business, it is important to develop people internally as well as continually improve our processes and procedures. Training has always been important to our people-focused business and this is a significant step forward in ensuring we are reaching the correct standards, as well as formalising our efforts.

“In addition, we hope that this important accreditation will prove attractive to prospective employees because it is important for us to have the right people in place across all departments. Even if candidates come to us without experience, we have processes in place to help them develop their careers with the right drive and focus. Investors in People accreditation correctly underlines that ethos and is something we look forward to developing further in the future.”

In making the award Investors in People Specialist Hilary Crick said: “I was particularly impressed with the way AEL have targeted their investment and energy towards effective learning and development of staff. This is at a time when many suppliers to the oil and gas sector have cut spend in this area. This investment is resulting in increased employee engagement and the people currently employed commented that AEL is a good place to work.”

Founded in 1981, AEL is an international brand providing electrical products and services to the onshore, offshore, renewable, petrochemical, marine and industrial sectors. From the company’s headquarters in Aberdeen, AEL has experienced steady organic growth in many overseas markets and now operates from a network of carefully selected locations in the USA, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan as well as Aberdeen and Ghana.
