Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce has been recognised in the Scottish Parliament after being named the UK Chamber of the Year.

The motion was brought forward by Audrey Nicoll, SNP MSP for Aberdeen South and North Kincardine, after AGCC scooped the top gong at the British Chambers of Commerce Awards.

The motion invited the parliament to congratulate AGCC on being named the UK Chamber of the Year at the British Chambers of Commerce Awards, noting that the "judges praised AGCC for its impactful campaigning on a managed energy transition, safeguarding jobs and collaborative work with other UK chambers".

The parliament also recognises "the critical importance of a chamber of commerce that both advocates for and supports businesses in the North-east".

It commends AGCC’s "leadership in promoting innovation, resilience and economic growth across Aberdeenshire and the broader region".

The motion was resoundingly supported byKaren Adam, Clare Adamson, Jeremy Balfour, Colin Beattie, Miles Briggs, Stephanie Callaghan, Jackie Dunbar, Annabelle Ewing, Jamie Hepburn, Bill Kidd, Fulton MacGregor, Stuart McMillan, Marie McNair, Kevin Stewart, Paul Sweeney and David Torrance.

Speaking after securing the award, Russell Borthwick, chief executive of Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce, said: “Winning this award is great recognition for the whole team at AGCC

“We play a leading role in pushing for a just energy transition in our region, and across the UK. That’s something that will safeguard jobs everywhere and secure our economic future.

“The ambition, resilience and innovation of the North-east of Scotland are at the heart of everything we do.”

The awards last month resulted in a double celebration as AGCC's very own Katie Watson also brought home the Rising Star Award, beating more than a dozen peers from Chambers across the nation.

The award is a unique opportunity to celebrate the next generation of Chamber professionals and Katie has a proud record of promoting her Chamber outside the ‘9-5’ and helping to inspire young business leaders across the North-east of Scotland.
