Following her appearance at last year’s Edinburgh Fringe, Ailsa Shepherd brings her debut show to St Margaret’s Braemar next Friday, June 14.

The one-women play — written and performed by Shepherd — finds Ava, seemingly alone, in her Grannie’s cottage on the North-east coast of Scotland.

As Ava remembers long summer evenings spent listening to her Grannie’s stories, the line between folktale, memory and reality is blurred and some unexpected guests appear.

Performed in Doric, Scots and English, the production considers the meaning of home and showcases Scotland through the eyes of its women.

The early-evening show starts at 6pm with tickets on sale at £12 for adults and £6 for children aged 15 and under at stmargaretsbraemar.org.uk

St Margaret’s is supporting a performance for primary pupils at Ballater School earlier in the day.

Commenting ahead of the performance, Venue Manager Lyndsey Boden said: “Following her debut at last year’s Edinburgh Fringe, we’re delighted to welcome Ailsa Shepherd to Braemar next Friday.

“With the Doric and Scots very much to the fore, and the stories and culture of the North East very much at its heart, I’m sure this will be a popular and relatable show for a St Margaret’s audience.

“It’s a warm-hearted short play full of legends, fairies, magical creatures — that blurs the lines between memory, myth and mystery.”
