AKR Fitness has introduced a new quarterly initiative called Wellness Baselines, helping members check in on the markers that matter most for long-term health, strength, and resilience.
Replacing traditional “fitness challenges,” the new format focuses on long-term healthspan, physical capability, and overall wellbeing — helping members stay strong, active, and independent at every stage of life. Every 12 weeks, members are guided through evidence-based measures including grip strength, balance, power, upper and lower body strength, and aerobic fitness. These metrics are closely linked to strength, mobility, and long-term wellbeing — making them far more meaningful than simply tracking weight or appearance.
One standout addition is Ventriject, a cutting-edge device that provides lab-grade VO₂ Max estimates in under two minutes — using a simple, non-invasive reading from the heart’s aortic pulse. AKR is one of the few gyms in the UK offering this technology.
“We work with people who don’t always feel at home in a typical gym,” said Mike MacDonald, founder of AKR Fitness. “They want to feel strong, capable, and energised — and Wellness Baselines help them see real, meaningful progress in the areas that matter for long-term health and quality of life.”
The gym also offers InBody body composition scans, giving members access to high-quality insights that support both health and motivation.
Based in Aberdeen city centre, AKR Fitness specialises in personal training for adults who value expert coaching, structure, and a supportive environment — helping them build strength, fitness and wellbeing that lasts.
