Cancer support charity Maggie’s Aberdeen is set to receive a £75,000 donation from energy company, Apache North Sea, which has supported the Centre from the beginning, nearly five years ago.
Apache was one of the first companies to support the appeal to raise the money needed to open the Aberdeen Centre and has supported Maggie’s every year since its inception. The charity provides free practical, emotional and social support for people with cancer and their families and friends. Its programme of support includes group sessions with a trained psychologist, benefits advice and Qi Gong.
Apache’s Region Vice President for the North Sea, Jon Graham, said: “We are thrilled to be able to donate such a sizeable amount to Maggie’s. We know how much it will assist with its annual running costs and support services.
“Knowing the vital role that the cancer support charity provides to the people of Aberdeen city and shire, we are delighted to be able to contribute to allow the Centre to continue providing support for so many in the North-east.”
Maggie’s Aberdeen Centre opened its doors nearly five years ago and since then has supported nearly 37,000 people with cancer, and their family and friends, from across the region.
Paula Cormack, centre fundraising manager at Maggie’s Aberdeen, is thrilled with the donation. She said: “Apache has been an outstanding supporter of Maggie’s since day one and we are incredibly grateful for their generosity in this immensely valuable partnership. Without Apache’s ongoing commitment Maggie’s would not be here to offer our vital programme of cancer support.
“Corporate philanthropy coupled with community support for fundraising events such as Maggie’s Culture Crawl on, June 22, is a really powerful mix in helping us to meet the annual running costs of the Centre.”
