Aberdeen-based AV One Solutions has been named a finalist in the prestigious AV Awards 2026 for its work on The James Hutton Institute’s pioneering Immersive Visualisation Suite.
AV One has been shortlisted for Public Sector Project of the Year, recognising the delivery of the innovative facility at The James Hutton Institute’s Craigiebuckler campus in Aberdeen.
The AV Awards celebrate excellence across the global audiovisual industry, with this year’s shortlist selected from a high standard of entries showcasing projects delivered over the past year.
The Immersive Visualisation Suite was created as a living laboratory where researchers can use the technology to step inside complex environmental data, explore it collaboratively and communicate scientific information in new and engaging ways. The project presented AV One with a number of technical challenges, not least creating a seamless visual experience across a combination of flat and curved projection surfaces. The team overcame this by integrating nine synchronised projectors with spatial audio, advanced media serving and automated alignment technologies.
Within its first nine months of operation, the suite, officially opened by First Minister John Swinney, hosted around 200 events and welcomed close to 2,000 visitors. Supporting both environmental research and wider stakeholder engagement, visitors have included representatives from government, public agencies, industry, academia, community organisations and education.
Graeme McGuire, Managing Director of AV One Solutions, said: “To be shortlisted for an AV Award is a fantastic achievement for the whole team and something we’re incredibly proud of. This was a technically challenging, high-end project and the first of its kind in the UK. The feedback since opening has been fantastic. It has become a working environment for research, collaboration and engagement and seeing how the suite has been embraced since opening has been hugely rewarding. We’re immensely proud of the project and to have it recognised alongside some of the best AV work in the industry is a real honour.”
Professor Colin Campbell, Chief Executive of The James Hutton Institute, added: “AV Ones’ work with us has been excellent and created a new unique facility in the science sector. This space has huge potential to connect people to our science in provocative and engaging ways that help solve real work problems dealing with land, climate and nature.”
AV One worked directly with The James Hutton Institute on the project, alongside technology partners 7thSense and Epson.
The winners of the AV Awards 2026 will be announced in London on Friday, 6th November.
