The Parent and Baby Show has announced that they have secured award winning author and psychologist Dr Emma Hepburn to tackle mum guilt and anxiety at their event in September.

Dr Emma Hepburn is a clinical psychologist who has over 20 years experience of working with and treating mental health difficulties in both children and adults.

Her work aims to bring psychology and evidence-based mental health information beyond the clinic room to a wider audience and encourage people to proactively look after their mental health. Emma is most commonly known as @thepsychologymum on Instagram, where she shares her illustrations and discusses brain functioning, mental health, wellbeing and psychology.

Adele Slater, founder of The Parent and Baby Show comments, “We are over the moon that we’ve secured Emma for our event. I’ve followed her work for years and find that her approach is the perfect blend of fun and educational. Taking the stigma out of mental health, Emma’s illustrations provide visual representations of emotions, making it easier for the reader to process.”

The theme of mental health continues throughout the weekend, with a number of speakers covering topics that can impact mental health. These include Stacey Will on dealing with overwhelm, midwives Mo Tabib and Geraldine Stevenson helping parents deal with pre-birth anxiety, Dr Aileen Alexander on building a healthy relationship with food, and Kerry Anderson providing top tips for getting a good night's sleep.

Adele continues, “The show has really evolved into something extraordinary. Throughout our research, we found that parents are looking for additional support that is either unavailable through the NHS or has a long waiting list. Left feeling frustrated, parents have commented that they don’t always know where to turn to. Which is why we’ve aimed to host everyone under the one roof.”

When asked about the event, Dr Emma Hepburn commented, “I am delighted to join this event to talk about some of the common struggles we can experience as parents. The more we talk about and normalise these experiences the more we can support each other through them. It is great to see this event, which is opening up these conversations, being held in the North East of Scotland.”

The Parent and Baby Show has seen a great response due to its fundamentals of being an affordable way for the region to get first-hand access to information, products and in-person demos all under one roof. It serves as a nurturing space for parents or parents-to-be; to shop, network and grow, with it being the number one destination for all things parent and baby.

The Parent and Baby Show is being held at P&J Live on September 14 and 15. Tickets for the event are on sale now and can be purchased here.
