One of Aberdeen’s much-loved charities, Befriend a Child, is hosting a birthday party with a difference next week to raise money for disadvantaged children in the North-east.
This year marks the charity’s tenth annual Big Kids’ Ball and to celebrate the black-tie event at Ardoe House Hotel on Friday, February 23, will take on the theme of a birthday party.
During the event, which is sponsored by Nexen, guests will be treated to entertainment from Silver City Soul Revue and MC Ian Thain, as well as the opportunity to take part in a secret auction and some very special birthday surprises.
Money raised in previous years has contributed to supporting the charity’s core befriending and mentoring services that support local children with the greatest need.
Richard Stewart, head of fundraising at Befriend a Child said: “Each year Befriend a Child is a lifeline to around 300 children and their families in the North-east and our annual Big Kids’ Ball is our main fundraising event of the year to help us provide befriending and mentoring services to those who need it most. It’s also a chance for us to celebrate with our supporters and friends and have fun.
“We’d like to thank everyone who has shown their support by buying a table and donating a prize and we look forward to welcoming our guests to the event for what we are sure will be a fantastic night.”
Befriend a Child provides support to disadvantaged and troubled school-aged children and young people growing up in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. The charity delivers one-to-one befriending and mentoring services.
Ray Riddoch, UK managing director and senior vice president Europe at Nexen Petroleum UK said, “Nexen shares Befriend a Child’s desire to build confidence and resilience in young people. We are proud to sponsor this year’s Big Kids Birthday Ball to help raise funds for their work in our community.”
In addition to sponsorship from Nexen, the event is also supported by 8020 (Prize Sponsor), BIG Partnership (Creative Sponsor) and J Thomson Print (Print Sponsor).
