Aberdeen's Belmont Cinema could reopen next year thanks to major funding from the National Lottery.
The much-loved venue on Belmont Street will receive around £1.5million worth of funding to help reopen its doors following its closure in 2022.
A sustained campaign was launched to help raise funds in hopes of bringing the city centre cinema back to life.
In an exclusive interview with the P&J, chief executive Matt Buchanan revealed the Belmont will receive and initial grant of £87,438 from the Heritage Fund, which could release a further £1,412,562.
He said: “This funding is a huge step forward.
“It’s massively significant because it delivers crucial progress in our refurbishment fundraising and shows this project is gaining unstoppable momentum.
“The Belmont is an important project for Aberdeen and the North-east of Scotland and this is further evidence that this is a project worth supporting and funding.
“With the caveat of successfully completing the development stage, I would be confident of giving an estimate of late 2027 for reopening.”
