Aberdeen business and community group, The Collective on the Cobbles brings back their successful street festival, The Big Belmont Bash, for the second summer in a row.
The Bash is free festival for all, celebrating the community and history of Belmont Street, Back Wynd, Gaelic Lane, and Little Belmont Street.
Aberdeen can begin the summer on Belmont Street with the first Big Belmont Bash of the year taking place on May 31 as charities, shops, restaurants, cafes and bars of The Collective on the Cobbles fill Belmont and Little Belmont Street with games, activities, lots of prizes, and free activities throughout the afternoon and evening.
Other activities on the day will include a free programme of outdoor musical performances curated by Fine Times, and The Collective have arranged a charity tombola in support of local charity, Citymoves Dance Agency.
Hayley Durward, chief executive officer of Citymoves Dance Agency had this to say about being selected as the Bash’s supported Charity: “Citymoves is delighted to have been chosen as the supported charity for the May Big Belmont Bash. We have been part of the Belmont Quarter community since 1992, and we are tremendously grateful for their support for the work we do, leading positive impacts through dance in our communities.
The Big Belmont Bash has been a welcome addition to our calendar, and we look forward to being part of the festivities.“
John Wigglesworth, of Books and Beans, Chair and spokesperson for the Collective said: “The Big Belmont Bash in 2024 was great fun with over 8,000 people getting involved, we had to do it again. It is great to be collaborating across organisations all giving our time and efforts to make the BBB happen and not just once but twice, in May and September. The formula is simple - create great fun, free activities for all.
"We just want to show that there are passionate organisations in the city centre that are taking the reins to collectively create POSITIVE events for the community to enjoy in the city centre.”
The Big Belmont Bash is being supported by Aberdeen Inspired. Chief Executive Adrian Watson, said: “It is great that we will have the Big Belmont Bash for thousands of people to enjoy on either side of summer in Aberdeen.
“This event isn’t just about having fun – important though that is – it is also about putting this historic quarter in the spotlight, along with the many outstanding businesses and attractions who work so hard to make the heart of the Granite City a vibrant and attractive ‘must-visit’ destination.
“The Collective are doing all they can to make this a ‘summer of love your city centre’ and I know people will turn out in their droves to support it while having the best days out. See you on the cobbles.”
As a final word from the Collective: “This is event is not about money, it is about connecting with all of Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire to show you all the city is open, has lots to offer, we care, and we want to show you a good time at this event and many more. You are invited, so please come, and join us for the Big Belmont Bash.”
