A £20million refurbishment on Aberdeen's Castlegate is expected to begin next month with traders hopeful the revamp will boost footfall to the area.
The transformation includes a new cycle lane, improved lighting and repairs to the cobbled square as part of Aberdeen City Council's £150million city centre and beach masterplan.
The plans, which were announced in March last year, were expected to begin in August 2025 shortly after The Tall Ships, however the project was postponed with construction expected to last 12 months.
Speaking to the P&J, council finance boss Alex McLellan is hopeful the revamp will encourgae traders to set up in the area.
“There are already some really good businesses there,” he said, “but there’s also an opportunity to embrace a café culture when the weather allows.
"it will be a place for everyone — for people to walk through, sit and enjoy.
“But it will also give businesses the chance to extend their footprint outdoors, which I think will be a huge benefit.”
