Business lobbying group CBI is calling for a major reset in the UK's relations with the European Union in a bid to "build bridges" after Brexit.
A report from the group published ahead of the EU-UK summit set to take place on May 19 it advises "practical steps" should be taken to ease travel, slash red tape and take collaborative action on energy, the climate and defence.
CBI warns the existing setup is "no longer fit for purpose", the BBC reports.
The government has already expressed its desire to reset relations with the EU, which is the UK's largest trading partner.
Now, the CBI is urging both sides to work together to simplify processes for staff working across borders and reintroduce youth mobility schemes.
Rain Newton-Smith, CBI director-general, said: "The world has moved on - and so must the UK-EU relationship. This is about growth, resilience and global competitiveness. Business is ready to play its part."
The government has ruled out re-joining the EU, including its single market and customs union.
