Care-experienced young people are among the thousands of candidates across Scotland who have today received their results certificates from SQA.
Care-experienced young people are those who are currently, or have previously been in any form of care, including foster care, residential care, and kinship care.
SQA has marked the achievements of these candidates through a collaborative congratulatory video message with charities Who Cares? Scotland and MCR Pathways.
In her video message to care-experienced candidates, SQA Chief Executive, and Scotland’s Chief Examining Officer, Fiona Robertson, said: “As proud corporate parents, everyone at SQA is committed to supporting and recognising the ambitions and successes of young people with care experience. After what has been another challenging year, I want to take this opportunity to congratulate you on your achievements this Results Day.
“Whatever the outcome today, please take pride in your efforts and take time to celebrate. All the best for whatever your future holds and remember there is no wrong path in getting where you want to go.”
Shirley-Anne Somerville MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills, said: “Congratulations to all care experienced learners who are receiving their results today. This has been yet another tough year with the pandemic, and you’ve had to face disruption to your education and to many other parts of your life. I don't underestimate how difficult that must have been.
“Results Day is an opportunity to thank you for all of your efforts and to pay tribute to your achievements over the past year, and I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you the very best of luck as you plan your next steps.”
As a proud corporate parent, SQA works closely with charities Who Cares? Scotland and MCR Pathways to help care-experienced young people enjoy the positive futures they deserve.
Chloe Dobson, Training and Education Manager (Corporate Parenting) at Who Cares? Scotland said: “Everyone at Who Cares? Scotland sends their congratulations to care experienced people who have received their qualification results today.
