A local charity has launched an auction that will fund wellbeing services for people receiving treatment for cancer or haematology illnesses.

Bids placed in Friends of ANCHOR’s online auction will fund the charity’s wellbeing services like massage, podiatry, reflexology and mindfulness.

There are more than 50 prizes up for grabs including overnight stays, days out for families and friends, designer items and food and golf experiences.

There are also tickets to HMT’s panto Peter Pan, where a family of four will enjoy the show from the best seats in the house before heading backstage to meet Peter Pan himself.

Friends of ANCHOR Chairman, Sir Jim Milne, said: “The support we have received from local businesses and supporters has been phenomenal, allowing the auction to boast some really exclusive prizes. We hope through this we can raise vital funds, all to support those in our community facing the reality of a cancer or haematology diagnosis.”

All funds raised through the auction will pay for Friends of ANCHOR’s wellbeing services, which are back in action after an enforced hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The weekly schedule for patients includes massage and reflexology, podiatry and nail services, including a sit-down nail bar in the radiotherapy department and a roaming nail bar which is taken around the chemotherapy and inpatient wards.

The charity also funds regular eight-week mindfulness courses for patients, to impart tools and advice that can help people to manage feeling of stress, anxiety and poor sleep. All services are free for patients and funded in full by Friends of ANCHOR.

Charity director Sarah-Jane Hogg added: “It’s wonderful to have our wellbeing team back in the ANCHOR Unit delivering our much-loved services and therapies. With all our auction fundraising directly supporting those services, bidders can rest assured their donations will bring such a welcome boost to patients as they undergo treatment.”

Bidding is open until 11.30pm (23.30) on Friday September 9, and the auction can be accessed online at https://friendsofanchor.weareeventpal.co.uk/?list_lots
