The Crerar Trust has awarded a grant of £15,000 to CLAN Cancer Support.
CLAN Cancer Support, which provides emotional and practical support for people affected by cancer, will use the funding towards its work in Inverurie and the surrounding area. CLAN has a centre in the town at Burnside Court, West High Street, from where it provides counselling and wellbeing services.
Crerar Hotels, which owns Thainestone House Hotel in Inverurie, operates hotels and inns in Scotland, and more than 50% of the group’s distributable profits are donated to local charities.
The Trust, which is chaired by Paddy Crerar CBE, has awarded £8m of grants to over 450 organisations over the last 18 years. This forms part of a commitment to re-invest in the communities in which the group’s hotels are based.
The Crerar Trust meets twice a year to award grants, with application periods closing on April and October 1, respectively. In this current funding round, over £200,000 of grants were awarded to 38 organisations.
As well as CLAN, a wide variety of organisations received awards, including those who provide support across health, education, and social inclusion to people of all ages.
Paddy Crerar, CBE, chairman of The Crerar Trust and chief executive of Crerar Hotels commented: “We are delighted to have made this award to CLAN and look forward o hearing how this funding helps impact its work. Crerar Hotels is committed to giving back to the local community to help it grow and thrive and provide opportunities that may otherwise seem out of reach. For every stay our customers have with us they are supporting others who really need it. It is great for our folk in the hotels to see their hard work and efforts helping people in their own communities as well as those from throughout the whole of Scotland.”
Fiona Fernie, CLAN’s head of income generation and business development, added: “As a local charity, we are delighted to see businesses re-investing in their local area. People want healthcare services to be conveniently located, so funds which are invested locally are always very welcome. We have 13 centres across the north-east, providing on the spot support to people affected by cancer, and this grant will play an important part in supporting our services in Inverurie.”
