Clan Cancer Support is looking for volunteers in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire to care for the public artwork featured in the charity’s upcoming art sculpture trail this summer.

The BookBench Trail will go live across the North-east, Moray, Orkney and Shetland from June 30, with 41 large BookBench sculptures being displayed in locations across Clan’s geography.

Clan is looking for volunteer ‘librarians’ to check their local sculpture is safe, clean and ready to welcome visitors throughout the nine-week trail period.

The charity advises volunteer librarians to carry out weekly checks with a cleaning kit provided by sponsor Tidy Green Clean to ensure the BookBench is in great condition throughout the project.

Fiona Fernie, Clan’s chief executive officer, said: “Our sculptures become an important part of the community when our trail is live and our librarian volunteers will play a vital role in ensuring the BookBenches can be enjoyed by everyone over the summer.

“We are excited to be able to offer the public this unique opportunity to get involved with the trail and would encourage anyone who is passionate about giving back to their local area to register now to take part.”

The charity is also looking for volunteers in Aberdeen to support with sculpture deinstallations during August 25-27. This opportunity may require heavy lifting, crowd control and providing information to the public, with support and safety equipment provided by Clan.

Other volunteering opportunities are available at The BookBench Trail Farewell Weekend which will take place at The Music Hall in Aberdeen during September 20 and 21, ahead of the large sculptures being sold at auction to raise vital funds for Clan.
