Property giant Comer Group has revived plans to create a new housing development in Aberdeen as it seeks to deliver 20,000 new homes across the UK over the next year.
The firm is looking to build up to 150 new homes at Leggart Brae, on the south-western edge of Aberdeen, and has submitted a new proposal of application notice, kickstarting consultation on the plans.
The plans were originally turned down by councillors on 2021, but following the inclusion of the land for housing in the newly-adopted Aberdeen Local Development Plan, the proposals have been brought back to the table.
Leggart Brae will be the housing giant's first investment in Scotland and the firm says the site presents a "unique opportunity" to "carefully develop a sympathetic expansion of the city".
Public consultation in October
Comer will host a drop-in event on Thursday 12th October at South Saint Nicholas Kincorth Church, Kincorth Circle between 3-8pm. The event will provide an opportunity for local residents and other stakeholders to directly engage with members of the project team.
A spokesman for the firm said: "Our vision for Leggart Brae is to deliver a welcoming development, that has been carefully designed to respond to the character and setting of the area.
"The site offers an opportunity to provide new homes that will meet the lifestyle aspirations of a range of different buyers, who will appreciate the natural assets of the site and its surroundings; as well as its location within Scotland’s third-largest city. On completion we want Leggart Brae to be a community where a mix of new residents can work, relax, and play.
"Following our pre-application consultation, a Planning Permission in Principle application will be brought forward for the new homes, all of which will be within the Aberdeen City Council boundary. No development is proposed within the neighbouring Aberdeenshire authority."
Big year for Comer
Comer Homes is embarking on a landmark year on its 45th anniversary that will deliver close to 20,000 new homes.
This includes 1,000 units completed, 4,500 taken through planning and over 12,000 homes established for zoning. In total, the Gross Development Value of Comer Homes’ current pipeline is approximately £4.8billion and, once fully delivered, will have a significant impact on alleviating the current housing shortage in the UK.
Comer Group co-founder Brian Comer said : “2022 was a fantastic year for Comer Homes, which saw us launch our flagship development Newland Park, whilst also progressing other exciting projects that we’re excited to move forward this year.”
“In our 45-year history, we have built a strong reputation for delivering high-profile and often historically sensitive schemes that are important landmarks and the developments we have in the pipeline mirror that, so we can’t wait to see them come to fruition.”
