An online consultation has opened on refreshing the current active travel plan for Aberdeen.
The 2017-2022 Active Travel Plan compromises of projects for walking, cycling and wheeling that have been identified as those requiring an upgrade to existing facilities, and those to create new facilities where none currently exists.
An update to the plan is thought to be prudent as it is halfway through its cycle and many of the projects identified have been completed, as well as the opening of the city bypass (Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route) which is starting to influence traffic patterns and flows.
In addition, there are other policies and strategies in the city which are have been approved since 2017 including the City Centre Masterplan, Roads Hierarchy, the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan, and the ongoing work into the feasibility of introducing a Low Emission Zone (LEZ).
ACC will be undertaking a series of corridor studies on the main radial roads (A92, A956, A947, A944, A96, A93) out to the bypass, so this consultation for refreshing the Active Travel Plan is particularly wanting to hear from residents about other areas of the city, in order to ensure that all areas are given equal status.
Aberdeen City Council transport spokesperson councillor Sandra Macdonald said: “We are continually looking to improve our road and pavement infrastructure to make it easier, and therefore encourage, more people to walk and cycle around the city.
“This Active Travel Action Plan is one of several policies and strategies we’re undertaking for this eventual outcome and I’d encourage people who do walk or cycle – or would like to walk or cycle more - to take part in the survey.”
The information will be used to create an updated 2017-2022 Active Travel Plan which would be brought before a committee at a later date.
The online consultation can be viewed online on the council’s website at https://consultation.aberdeencity.gov.uk/place/active-travel-action-plan-refresh until Friday, February 14, 2020.
