More and more people are using the new First Bus night bus routes to get home after a night out in Aberdeen city centre following their launch on 27th June.

First Bus won the contract to operate five new late-night services to support Aberdeen’s nightlife economy, celebrating the relaunch of the night bus by teaming up with Aberdeen staple, Thains Bakery, to offer the ideal midnight snack across the first three weekends.

The giveaway proved a hit with late night revellers on Bridge Street with 400 free pies given away each weekend, helping to raise awareness of the new night bus services in the process.

Designed with convenience, safety, and reliability in mind, the new night bus services depart from Union Terrace, Bridge Street and Alford Place, running through key areas of Aberdeen including George Street, King Street and Holburn Street. The five routes operate at regular intervals throughout Friday and Saturday nights from midnight to the final 3L47am route from Bridge Street, to ensure a regular and reliable service.

David Adam, Head of Operations for First Aberdeen, said: “We are thrilled to have launched this new night bus service which we hope will allow everyone in Aberdeen to enjoy the city’s nightlife to the fullest, without worrying about how they’ll get home.

With Aberdeen’s nightlife sometimes criticised for its lack of late-night transport options, First Bus hopes these new services plug the gap to support the city’s bustling evening and early-morning activities. The new service aims to ensure that everyone can enjoy their night out or commute to work without the worry of how to get home safely.

Colin Waddell, Sales Area Manager, at Thains, added: “The introduction of these new night bus routes is a fantastic boost for the late-night economy in Aberdeen. We hope that the new services will not only support safe and enjoyable nights out in the city but also drive more business to local establishments like ours.”

Helping to keep costs low, the night bus ticket cost matches the daytimes costs, protecting customers from peak pricing or other hidden charges during the busiest times. With tickets starting at £2.10 for a single fare, night bus travel is also accepted with package tickets such as the FirstWeek or First4Week tickets for unlimited travel across seven days or four weeks. Concessions pass holders can also use their pass on board to benefit from free travel.
