Count Arthur Strong to entertain at Aberdeen Comedy Festival 2019

The latest big name to star at next year’s Aberdeen Comedy Festival has been revealed today as none other than variety veteran legend Count Arthur Strong.

In little over two decades the meticulous comic creation of Count Arthur Strong has gone from an Edinburgh Fringe cult to become a mainstay of the UK comedy scene.

With a comedic career that includes eight Edinburgh runs, eleven national tours and 70 broadcast shows on BBC Radio and TV, Count Arthur Strong’s position in the comedy landscape is now often likened to that once held by the variety greats Tommy Cooper, Ken Dodd and Tony Hancock.

As part of his UK wide tour, Leeds comedian and character actor Steve Delaney will bring the beloved character to the Tivoli Theatre on October 10 for his show, Count Arthur Strong: Is There Anybody Out There?

Adrian Watson, chief executive of Aberdeen Inspired, said: “We have a hugely exciting line-up announced so far for the Aberdeen Comedy Festival next year and are thrilled to add yet another big name to that. Count Arthur Strong has a cult following and we are sure fans will be snapping up tickets to see him in action.

“There was a tremendous buzz in the city centre during the festival this year, which we believe has truly placed Aberdeen firmly on the Scottish comedy scene. Securing acts like Ben Elton, Daniel Sloss, Jimeoin and now Count Arthur Strong is testament to that and we can’t wait to bring even more big comedy names to our city.”

Count Arthur Strong said: “Do not miss this not to be missed type of thing! If I wasn’t in the show I’d deï¬nitely be in the audience watching myself intently. Laughing and learning in equal measure. Thoroughly happy to pay the admission fee and deï¬nitely not asking for a refund. Also not rustling sweet wrappers and ï¬ddling with my sodding telephone with a gormless expression on my face. See you there!”

As well as being the all-round entertainer we all know and love from the telly, Count Arthur Strong is also a lifelong fan of astronomy, since having been given a microscope, or whatever it is they use, for Christmas when he was a small precocious baby.

In fact, it’s said the ï¬rst word he spoke was ‘Uranus’. In this, his brand-new show, he seamlessly combines the very best showbiz entertainment you’ll currently ï¬nd, in the world, as he wrestles with some of the big questions that other all-round entertainers shy away from. Such as: Are we alone in the universe? Is there life on Mars bars?

Count Arthur Strong joins Aberdeen Inspired’s star-studded comedy festival line-up for 2019 which includes the legendary Ben Elton, who is returning to stand-up after a 15-year absence and internationally acclaimed stand-up comedians Jimeoin and Daniel Sloss.

Aberdeen Comedy Festival will run at a multitude of city venues, bars and clubs over the course of 11 days from Thursday, October 3 until Sunday, October 13, 2019. It will continue to shine a spotlight on local talent as well as showcasing the best acts on both the national and international comedy circuit. The festival has been organised and promoted in its entirety by Aberdeen Inspired since 2016 with generous support from The McGinty’s Group Scotland and Balmoral Group.
