Corporate runners hoping to bring Run Garioch’s AB51 Business Challenge Shield home to their business this year only have a few more days to get their entries in.

The prize, sponsored by award-winning housebuilders Dandara, is awarded to the fastest team from an AB51-registered business in the Dandara 10K.

Runners need only provide their business name and postcode at registration to be considered for the competition. A minimum of four runners automatically creates a team entry, and only the fastest three times are counted.

Claire Bathgate, Head of Sales at Dandara Aberdeen said: "Having sponsored Run Garioch for the last few years, Dandara are delighted to be back again in 2024 supporting the 10K race.

“With so many people today working desk jobs, it can be hard to get out and be active day to day. By getting involved in a great community initiative like Run Garioch, we hope to continue to encourage happy and healthy work relations for the people of Aberdeen and Shire."

The shield has been won for the past three years by Inverurie’s Scotframe. Earlier winners include Andersons of Inverurie and Fisher Offshore.

Nicola Gauld, whose Scotframe team will be back to defend their title in 2024 said, “I’m delighted that Scotframe has managed to win the Run Garioch AB51 Business Challenge Shield for the past three years. It’s great to support a local event and good team event.”

Race Director Graham Morrison said, “We’re always delighted to see so many runners from our local businesses, as well as our event patrons and sponsors, take part in Run Garioch each year.

“Some businesses encourage their staff to take part in the Dandara 10K for team building. Some use it as a target for their own health and wellbeing initiatives; still others use it and our other races to raise funds for their own charity partners. The fact that Run Garioch brings so many people together both for and within our community is what makes it so special.”

Run Garioch has grown from a 400-finisher 10K in 2005 to a major community event with six races, dozens of volunteers from local charities and thousands of runners. Funds raised at Run Garioch support Inverurie’s Garioch Sports Centre and local good causes.

This year’s event will be held on Sunday, May 12. General entries close on Sunday, April 28.
