Recruitment agency RedWave has held a workshop in the Netherlands with the aim of increasing awareness of the Dutch decommissioning sector.
More than 30 companies attended the decommissioning awareness workshop on 5th April at RedWave’s headquarters at Beverwijk, in North Holland. It was presented by top UK consultant Iain Whitehead, of IW-Decom Ltd.
Mr Whitehead was previously Decommissioning Director at Petrofac, and has also supported Centrica E&P with all their decommissioning activities.
Companies from various sectors attended including; maritime & vessels; heavy lifting; harbours; waste management; logistics; wind, as well as oil and gas operators.
Mr Whitehead provided background knowledge to decommissioning in the UK market and explained how this could be translated in the Netherlands, where decommissioning is still in its infancy.
Delegates were asked to present a small pitch to explain their goals. They then discussed how they could combine their resources and strengthen their business models to support the Dutch decommissioning sector, and to promote best practice.
Another event has now been planned for the summer and companies have been asked to think about how they can best help the industry and each other. Interest was also expressed in creating a decommissioning consortium.
Mr Whitehead said he was looking forward to working with the delegates in the future, and added: “Everybody was engaged, there was been a lively discussion and everybody responded very well.”
