Developers drawing up plans for 800 new homes in Inverugie are including space for a potential Peterhead railway station.
Claymore Homes is planning a major development on land running alongside the A90 on the outskirts of Peterhead, where a new school and community hub would also be built in addition to the housing.
The Press and Journal reports the developer is also leaving space in its plans for the possibility of a new railway station in Peterhead.
Details of the proposed development were put before the Buchan area committee on Tuesday.
It comes after Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce hosted a congregation of major stakeholders to discuss the future of North-east rail.
In it, Jordan Jack, the general secretary of the Campaign for North East Rail, outlined the "four keys" needed to unlock the region's potential.
