Elon Musk has launched a blistering attack on his former ally Donald Trump's tax and spending bill - branding it a "disgusting abomination".
Including tax breaks amounting to trillions of dollars, more defence spending and allowing the US government to borrow more money, the budget was passed by the House of Representatives last month.
Now, the BBC reports, Tesla owner Musk has taken to X, the social media site he also owns, to express his disapproval of the bill.
"Shame on those who voted for it," he said.
It comes as the rift between Musk and Trump widens, with the tech billionaire, who had headed up a department of government efficiency (Doge) departing the administration suddenly last week.
In the public attack on the budget - which Trump calls his "big beautiful bill" - Musk called it "outrageous" and "pork-filled", referring to spending on projects in lawmakers' own constituencies.
He added that it would "massively increase the already gigantic budget deficit to $2.5 trillion (!!!) and burden America [sic] citizens with crushingly unsustainable debt".
Responding, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said: "The President already knows where Elon Musk stood on this bill.
"This is one, big, beautiful bill. And he's sticking to it."
