DNV's head of electric vehicles commented on Prime Minister Boris Johnson's announcement that new buildings and homes in England will be legally required to install electric vehicle charging points from next year.

Jeremy Parkes, welcomes the government's announcement: "This news will help accelerate the EV revolution, making it easier for drivers to charge their vehicles when and where they need to. One of the great advantages of electric vehicles is that they can be charged whilst you are doing other things, at home, at work or at the shops, but that is only possible if the infrastructure is rolled out at all these locations; installing chargers at new homes and buildings is one of the most efficient ways of achieving this.

"EVs will play a vital role in the energy transition, lowering demand for energy, reducing CO2 emissions and providing essential flexibility for the energy systems of the future. With vehicles plugged in at locations where they are parked for longer periods of time, then their batteries can be used to support the grid, charging when there is low demand elsewhere on the grid and discharging when demand is high."
