easyJet, Scotland’s largest airline, has today launched the first flights on its seasonal summer route from Aberdeen to Manchester. The airline’s double-daily service to London Gatwick has also recently taken off for the summer season.
Both routes will provide stronger domestic connectivity from Scotland to key cities across the UK whether customers are looking for a city break, to reconnect with family or friends, a convenient business connection, or to grab a connecting flight to a range of destinations across Europe. And for those wishing to explore more of Scotland this summer, Aberdeen offers the perfect mix of vibrant city life and natural beauty from museums, art galleries, and nature trails to designer shopping and whiskey tasting experiences.
Flights to Manchester take off today for the first time this year and are now operating up to five times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays between March 28 and October 28, 2022, providing key connectivity between the regions throughout the summer, with fares available from just £22.99*.
Additionally, the double-daily service to London Gatwick is also now operating with flights departing in the morning and afternoon throughout the summer season between March 28 and October 29, 2022, providing convenient connections to London and the South of England.
Ali Gayward, easyJet's UK Country Manager, said: “We are delighted to be celebrating the launch of our summer operations from Aberdeen today, and to be providing even more choice for our business and leisure customers alike. We are proud to be the largest airline in Scotland and remain dedicated to offering low fares and convenient connections for our customers here as well as for those across the UK looking to explore the fantastic experiences Scotland has to offer.
“We are looking ahead to what we expect to be a strong summer for easyJet, with plans to return to near 2019 levels of flying. We can’t wait to welcome more customers back on board.”
Mark Beveridge, Operations Director at Aberdeen International Airport said: “It is great to see easyJet growing its offering and presence at Aberdeen International Airport with the seasonal Manchester route returning today and London Gatwick service now twice daily.
“Rebuilding our connectivity will play a vital role in supporting the economic recovery of the north east and we know the Gatwick route has been incredibly popular so we are delighted easyJet is doubling its daily frequency to meet demand.
“Our passengers and stakeholders were delighted when the restarting of this route was announced and welcome this new increased frequency.”
Russell Borthwick, Chief Executive of Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce, said: “These routes are key economic arteries for the North-east and the region is indebted to easyJet for connecting these cities to Aberdeen.
“Not only do these important routes connect our business to key markets, but they also connect the rest of the UK to our wealth of culture, amazing heritage, great food and drink and one of the most spectacular landscapes in the world.
“Rebuilding our connectivity is one of the biggest challenges we face as we seek to build a stronger post-pandemic economy and this announcement represents a significant step forward.”
Chris Foy, CEO at VisitAberdeenshire said: “The doubling of the daily service from London Gatwick and the return of the seasonal service from Manchester is hugely positive for the region, as potential visitors start planning their getaways for this summer.
“We have so much to offer visitors, from our majestic natural landscape, opportunities for outdoor pursuits, culture and rich history to the very best of local food and drink, and these routes make our corner of Scotland even more accessible.”
This summer, easyJet is set to operate nearly five times more seats from Aberdeen than it did in summer 2019, serving more destinations and providing more choice for customers in the North East of Scotland.
