UK Energy Minister Michael Shanks has been confirmed as the final guest for a major energy debate taking place during Offshore Europe this September.

He joins Shadow Energy Secretary Claire Coutinho MP and Scotland’s Deputy First Minister and Economy Secretary Kate Forbes MSP on stage at the Aberdeen Music Hall for a special live recording of the Holyrood Sources podcast.

The event, hosted by Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce and Shepherd and Wedderburn, will bring together senior political voices from across the spectrum to debate the future of the energy sector.

With a 500-strong audience, the session promises a lively exchange on the policies, pressures and possibilities shaping the next chapter of energy – from the North Sea to net zero.

AGCC said the addition of the minister completes a heavyweight line-up that will give industry direct access to the people shaping the UK’s energy policy at a critical moment.

Russell Borthwick, Chief Executive of Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce, said: “There could hardly be a more important time for a debate like this. Decisions taken in the months ahead will determine whether the North-east continues to power the UK economy, or whether we repeat the mistakes of the past.

"Bringing these senior voices together on one stage is a unique opportunity for our region to make its case directly.”

The debate will be chaired by Geoff Aberdein, Andy Maciver and Calum Macdonald, three insiders with deep experience in politics, government, media and business.

The live recording takes place at the Aberdeen Music Hall during Offshore Europe.
