Engineering firm Jbs is supporting the Peterhead Academy Learning Partnership for another year – a valuable initiative developed with Aberdeenshire Council to give young people real insight into engineering careers.
Recently, 10 S3 pupils joined Jbs – a leading provider of engineering solutions – at its South View, Peterhead, facility, working alongside its team and partner firm, AM Campbell Electricians, to design and build a fully operational screw conveyor.
From initial concept to final build, this hands-on experience helped pupils develop practical skills, tackle real engineering challenges and build confidence in a working environment.
With more than 60% of the Jbs team starting their careers through apprenticeship programmes, they know how powerful this kind of experience can be – both for pupils and for the future of the engineering industry.
Jo McIntosh, Sales and Marketing Director at Jbs, said: “This isn’t just a project – it’s a way of showing young people what’s possible. Engineering opens doors around the world. We want pupils to see that for themselves and be inspired to take the next step.”
Gerry McCluskey, Head Teacher, Peterhead Academy, said: “Providing contextualised learning experiences co-created with industry partners like Jbs ensures we are equipping our young people at Peterhead Academy with the skills they require for life beyond school, whilst exposing them to the excellent career opportunities available in our community.
“The input from Jbs on our S3 Skills for Work course is sector-leading, we are so grateful for their time and talent, and the opportunity for our pupils to work on-site at the Jbs facility alongside experienced staff is just amazing.”
Jbs will welcome the next intake of S3 pupils in 2026.
