Building on its strong reputation for delivering specialist training in hazardous and industrial environments, EPIT Group (EPIT) has introduced a new High Voltage Authorised Person course tailored to meet the operational and regulatory demands of today's electrical professionals.

Designed in accordance with the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 (EAWR), the course supports compliance and safety for those operating, maintaining, or controlling high voltage (HV) electrical systems. It reflects EPIT's ongoing commitment to upskilling engineers with relevant, real-world knowledge that aligns with company safety rules and mandatory standards.

The course is relevant for engineering professionals across multiple sectors including oil and gas, renewables, and construction, where high voltage systems are integral to operations. It is particularly valuable for those working within the NHS and MOD sectors, where robust electrical infrastructure is mission-critical. NHS healthcare facilities rely on complex high voltage systems to power vital equipment and maintain patient safety, requiring staff competency in Health Technical Memorandum 06-03 (HTM 06-03) compliance. Similarly, MOD establishments depend on secure electrical infrastructure for operational continuity, with engineering staff needing to meet statutory requirements under JSP 375 Volume Chapter 3 for electrical safety.

Course Content Includes:

  • High and low voltage distribution systems
  • HV switchgear types and substation equipment
  • Safe operating procedures including isolation and switching
  • Authorised Person duties and documentation
  • Practical switching assessment and written evaluation
  • Protection systems and HV maintenance

The programme is suited for experienced electrical personnel already appointed—or preparing to be appointed—as High Voltage Authorised Persons (Electrical HV). Delegates will receive a Certificate of Training valid for five years upon successful completion.

Course Details:

  • Location: EPIT Training Centre, Blackburn Industrial Estate, Aberdeen, UK
  • Duration: 3 Days (9.00am – 5.00pm)
  • Group Size: 4 to 8 delegates
  • Lunch: Included
  • Dates & Pricing: Available on application

"Adding the High Voltage Authorised Person course to our training offering strengthens EPIT's position as a trusted partner to industry," said Martin Constable, operations director at EPIT.

"It's a natural step that builds on our excellent track record of delivering professional qualification courses that meet the real-world needs of engineers working in challenging environments."

Renewable Energy

  • Supports competence development for safe management of wind, solar, and other renewable installations in line with industry standards (e.g. HSE, EAWR), promoting grid compliance, asset reliability, and continuity of supply.

Oil and Gas

  • Supports compliance with offshore safety regulations (e.g. HSE Offshore, IMO), and promotes operational safety in hazardous and remote environments.

NHS

  • Supports compliance with healthcare safety standards (HTM 06-03), helps maintain safe and reliable electrical systems, enhances statutory duties, and helps reduce risk to patient services.

MOD

  • Supports compliance with MOD safety rules (JSP 375), helps maintain operational security through robust electrical systems, and develops expertise in both HV/LV safe working practices for defence estates
