R. S. Safety was established in October 1993 by Susan and Rod Garvie, and since has grown from strength to strength creating what is now trading as Evolve. As Evolve turns 30, the firm would like to reflect on its journey and appreciate that it is still thriving as a family-run business.
When Susan had to take early retirement, the reigns were handed to Susan and Rod’s daughter duo, Linda and Julie who are now running the show. Evolve Training continues to be a leading independent training company in the North-east of Scotland.
R. S. Safety began as a Safety Support company offering Safety support to companies as an external Health and Safety officer taking the pressure off companies to ensure their legal compliance. Initially, R. S. Safety was operating from the spare room of the Garvie household. Upon years of providing Safety support, it became apparent there was a huge requirement for training in the area which sparked R. S. Safety’s break into becoming the only local independent training provider.
Aberdeen’s first-ever confined space training unit was created by R. S. Safety which was coupled with the purchase of a forklift to offer its initial range of training courses. This encouraged the opening of R. S. Safety’s First Training Centre in Inverurie, which was opened by David Bainbridge on Thursday, June 12, 1997. This led to R. S. Safety becoming a leading independent training provider for the Oil & Gas; Utility and Construction industries as well as for the Fire and Police services.
As the firm branched, it outgrew its Inverurie base, and relocated to a facility in Kirkhill Industrial Estate, Aberdeen, before long it began to outgrow this premises too as it was striving. In 2002, the firm purchased its current Headquarters in Wellheads Industrial Estate in Dyce, Aberdeen. At this point the success of R. S. Safety was apparent while the business was rapidly expanding, and were advised to change its name.
Since the firm purchased its current headquarters, it has continued to develop the range of courses delivered as well as adding some more support to the range. Evolve now offers over 100 courses across numerous industries, continuing as a leading independent training provider. Some of those are First Aid courses, Forklift courses, NEBOSH, Health and Safety courses, and Confined Space courses among many more. Uniquely the firm prides itself on the range of experience and knowledge all its instructors bring to their roles, as well as practical based courses providing knowledge through training and practical experience. Additionally, Evolve proudly now offers three company supports in the form of Safety support, Security support and Lifting support, more information on these and our full course catalogue can be found at www.evolvetraining.com.
Evolve training is still developing with new courses being added to ensure local and national companies can keep in line with legislation and industry guidance, with its newest course Menopause Awareness launching on World Menopause Day October 18, 2023.
As Evolve celebrates its 30th Birthday, it would like to thank all its customers and staff for their support over the last three decades and aim to deliver the same excellent training and service for decades to come.
